Digital Aerial Sketchmapping (D-ASM)
In 1997 RedCastle Resources personnel began the development of a digital aerial sketchmapping system to assist Forest Health managers collect information on insect and disease outbreaks. The system integrates computer hardware, software and associated electronic components to provide a digital moving map display integrated with GPS. The display shows the user the current location of the moving aircraft and provides the user the capability to delineate features on georeferenced base maps. The software guides users through the data dictionary development process for easy input of attributes. The software also provides users options for digitizing points, polygons, and lines directly into a GIS. RedCastle personnel have assisted numerous users in federal and state agencies with tasks including system setup, data acquisition, and data capture. Feedback from users has been very positive. RedCastle personnel also completed a Digital Aerial Sketchmapping User Guide and continue to support workshops.
