National Infrared Operations Support
The mission of the USDA Forest Service Infrared Mapping Section is to provide accurate high-quality infrared imagery to an incident in a timely manner. Over the years the infrared mapping objective has evolved with changes in technology, and RedCastle Resources personnel have assisted with these developments for the past 15-years. Working with through the USFS Remote Sensing Applications Center, RCR staff are key collaborators of the National Interagency Fire Center’s (NIFC), National Infrared Operations Unit (http://www.nifc.gov/nifctour/infrar.html). RCR personnel are tasked to stay up-to-date on emerging infrared technologies and their applications for wildfire suppression. This responsibility has grown to include the use of Unmanned Aerial Systems to acquire and downlink thermal imagery from wildfires.
